DESCRIPTION
The Distributor Ignition (DI)(TFI-IV) System features a camshaft driven distributor which uses no centrifugal or vacuum advance. A Cylinder Identification (CID) sensor is located in the distributor and provides accurate position information of cylinder # 1. Also located in the distributor is the Crankshaft Position (CKP) Sensor which provides TDC information for all cylinders.
OPERATION
The Ignition Control Module (ICM) receives input signals as the slotted disc inside the distributor passes through the fixed photo sensors of the CID and CKP sensors. The ICM uses these signal information to modify ignition timing for optimal engine operation. The ICM then sends trigger information to the ignition coil, producing a secondary output voltage which is then routed to a conventional cap and rotor for distribution to the plug wire and plugs.
