Child Restraint: Service and Repair
WARNING:- WHEN POSSIBLE, PUT CHILDREN IN THE REAR SEAT OF YOUR VEHICLE. ACCIDENT STATISTICS SUGGEST THAT CHILDREN ARE SAFER WHEN PROPERLY RESTRAINED IN THE REAR SEATING POSITIONS THAN IN THE FRONT SEATING POSITIONS.
- WHEN USING ANY INFANT OR CHILD RESTRAINT SEAT IT IS IMPORTANT TO FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS PROVIDED BY THE MANUFACTURER CONCERNING ITS INSTALLATION AND USE. FAILURE TO FOLLOW EACH OF THE INSTRUCTIONS GREATLY INCREASES THE RISK OF A CHILD BEING INJURED IN A COLLISION OR SUDDEN STOP.
A child seat locking clip must be installed on the safety belt used to secure a child safety seat. The child seat locking clip prevents the loosening of a safety belt securing a child safety seat.
Every safety belt that requires a child seat locking clip is identified by a label on the safety belt.
Child Safety Seat Installation
Use the following procedure to install a child safety seat and child seat locking clip:
1. Thread the safety belt webbing through the child safety seat according to the child safety seat manufacturer's instructions.
2. Buckle the safety belt. Remove the slack from the lap portion of the safety belt by pulling on the shoulder portion.
3. While keeping the lap portion belt snug, hold the lap and shoulder portions of the safety belt together next to the safety belt tongue and unbuckle the safety belt.
4. Slide either of the child seat locking clip slots over both the lap and shoulder portions of the safety belt as close as possible to the safety belt tongue.
5. Pinch both layers of the safety belt and insert into the other slot of the child seat locking clip as shown.
6. Buckle the safety belt and forcibly tilt the child safety seat from side to side and forward to see if it is held securely in place. If excessive movement occurs, repeat Steps 3 through 5, or properly install the child safety seat in a different seating position.
