Some remanufactured AX4S SHO transaxles used in the 1993-1995 Taurus SHO will be built with a unique Triple Clutch Pack Assembly and Driven Sprocket Support (refer to Figure 1). The is due to the limited availability of service parts.

ACTION
If internal service is required on a remanufactured transaxle in a 1993-1995 Taurus SHO, check the transaxle parts number and look for the bright colored tag on the transaxle side cover identifying a transaxle built with the unique parts. Refer to the following Service Procedure for details.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

TRANSMISSION IDENTIFICATION





1. If internal service is required, check the transaxle parts number and look for the bright colored tag on the transaxle side cover identifying a transaxle built with the unique parts. Transaxles built with the unique Triple Clutch Pack Assembly and Driven Sprocket Support will have a "Dash One" (-1) at the end of the transaxle service part number and have a bright colored tag on the transaxle side cover (refer to Figure 2).





2. If the part number ends with a "Dash One" (-1) (Figure 3), use the 2000 model year 3.8L Windstar parts list for ordering parts for the Triple Clutch Pack Assembly and Driven Sprocket Support (Figure 1). For all other parts inside the transaxle, use the appropriate parts list for the model year of the vehicle (1993-1995 Taurus SHO AX4S transaxle).
