GLASS - FRONT WINDOW MAY TRAVEL BEYOND
THE UPSTOP AND OUT OF THE GLASS RUN
FORD:
1994-98 MUSTANG
ISSUE
The front window may travel beyond the upstop and exit the glass run on some vehicles. This may be caused by insufficient interference of the window rear mounting bracket to the upstop.
ACTION
Attach an extension to the window rear mounting bracket. The extension creates more interference of the window bracket to the upstop, reducing the possibility of the window traveling too far. Refer to the following Service Procedure for details.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
1. Remove door trim panel.
2. Lower glass to provide access to the window glass rear mounting bracket through the opening in door inner panel.
3. Temporarily install a 1/4" bolt to attach and align extension to the window glass rear mounting bracket. Refer to Figure 1.
4. Be sure extension is flush with horizontal surface of glass upstop land on door glass rear bracket.
5. Use the two (2) 1/8" holes in the extension as guides and drill two (2) 1/8" holes in rear glass bracket.
6. Secure the extension to the bracket using two (2) 1/8" by 7/16" Steel Rivets (382568-S2).
7. Remove 1/4" bolt.
8. Check for adequate engagement between glass bracket and upstop by operating the window. Visual inspection will require an auxiliary light such as a flashlight.
9. Install door trim panel.
