MOULDING - FRONT DOOR CLADDING - REPLACEMENT PROCEDURE - SERVICE TIPS

FORD:
1993-95 TAURUS

ISSUE:
The front outside door cladding may break if it is improperly installed.

ACTION:
Refer to the following installation procedure to reduce the chance of improperly installing the moulding and causing damage to the new moulding.

INSTALLATION AND ADJUSTMENT PROCEDURE

1. Measure the sheet metal gap between the rear edge of the front fender and the front edge of the front door. Adjust the fender or door if the gap is not between 2.5 mm and 5.5 mm (7/64" and 7/32"). Refer to the appropriate Service Manual for adjustment details.

2. Refer to Figures 1, 2 and 3 to ensure that the plastic retainer is installed in the top front of the cladding. Make sure the retainer is not jammed/pushed rearward in the cladding.

3. Carefully position the cladding onto the door assembly with the attachment studs in the mounting holes and the plastic retainer just started into the door mounting holes.

4. Hold the cladding in place and measure the clearance between the cladding front edge and the door sheet metal front edge. The clearance must be at least 2.7 mm (7/64") to 4.3 mm (11/64"). Refer to Figure 4.

5. If necessary, lightly push the cladding rearward until it stops to obtain the clearance of 2.7 mm (7/64") to 4.3 mm (11/64").

6. If the minimum clearance cannot be obtained, remove the cladding and trim the plastic retainer stop on the cladding (up to 3.0 mm) as shown in Figure 5.

7. Reinstall the cladding and position as in Step 4 and complete the installation.
