Vehicle Speed Sensor: Description and Operation

Vehicle Speed Sensor:

The Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) is driven by the output shaft of the transaxle and sends eight pulses of alternating current to the speedometer for every one rotation of the driven gear. The speed signal is also sent to the speed control module, if equipped. The powertrain control module uses the signal sent to the speedometer to determine vehicle road speed.
