Camshaft, Lifters and Push Rods: Description and Operation

VALVE TRAIN
The valve train operates as follows:
- Valve tappets provide lash adjustment by removable shims.
- The valve tappets ride on the camshaft lobes transferring the camshaft's up and down motion to the valves in the cylinder heads.

CAMSHAFTS
The four camshafts are:
- Installed onto the cylinder heads and supported in the cylinder head camshaft journals.
- Connected by two secondary timing chains from the exhaust camshafts to the intake camshafts.
- Limited in end play and thrust loads by the No.1 cylinder head camshaft journal caps.
