Tire/Wheel Inspection
Tire/Wheel Inspection:
Inspect the tires and wheels for wear or damage.
1. Check for feathered edge wear caused by worn steering parts or front end alignment.
2. Check for shoulder wear caused by underinflation or lack of rotation.
3. Check for uneven wear caused by incorrect alignment, unbalanced wheels or lack of rotation.
4. Check for center wear caused by overinflation or lack of rotation.
Original equipment tires have built-in tread wear indicators to show when new tires need to be installed. The indicators will appear as 12.7-mm (0.5-in) wide bands when the tire tread depth becomes 1.58 mm (0.06 in). When the indicators appear in two or more adjacent treads or at three locations around the tire, installation of a new tire is recommended.
Verify that the correct tire size and wheel rim are used. If a tire/wheel is damaged, the suspension components can suffer misalignment, abnormal wear/damage that contribute to the tire/wheel damage.
