Manual Transmission/Transaxle: Description and Operation

The T5OD transmission is a 5-speed, fully synchronized transmission containing the following features:
^ fifth speed gear works as an overdrive gear.
^ first gear through fourth gear and the reverse gear are meshed within the case.
^ fifth speed gear and the synchronizer are located in the extension housing.
^ the reverse shift rail is located in the front case.
^ the first/second and third/fourth gear shifter forks are mounted in the case cover.
^ fifth speed and reverse are shifted through a reverse gearshift lever and mounted on a shift rail rear pin.
^ the shift interlock system, located in the case cover, prevents the engagement of more than one gear.
^ the shift detent, located in the extension housing turrent, consists of a detent plate, gearshift offset lever, shifter interlock spring, and detent ball.
^ all gears except reverse are synchronized and helical cut.
