Operation
CAUTION: The 3.4L 4V SHO engine has aluminum intake manifold, cylinder head, and a cast aluminum cylinder block with iron liners and requires a special corrosion inhibiting coolant to avoid cooling system damage.
The 3.4L 4V SHO engine has the following features:
^ 60 degree V-block construction
^ balance shaft
^ dual overhead camshafts
^ 4 valves per cylinder
6 Sequential Multi-Port Fuel Injection (SFI)
The ignition system is electronic: (distributorless) with one ignition coil for each spark plug. This high energy ignition system is required for fast-burn combustion.
The air intake system utilizes a secondary intake port along with a primary intake port. The secondary port is opened and closed by an electronically operated Intake Manifold Runner Control (IMRC) deactivation motor, thus improving low and mid-range torque and fuel efficiency.
