Ignition Timing: Specifications

Timing, Curb Idle Sped, Fast Idle Speed, Fuel Pressure And Valve Lash.:

1 - Wrap shop towel around fitting to prevent fuel spillage, then connect suitable fuel pressure gauge to fuel diagnostic valve on fuel rail assembly. Gradually open fuel pressure gauge test valve to relieve fuel system pressure & drain fuel into a suitable container. Close fuel pressure gauge test valve. Turn ignition On. Access output test mode on scan tool & operate fuel pump to obtain maximum fuel pressure. Fuel pump will operate for approximately 8 snoods. Inspect fuel pressure gauge reading.

2 - Cylinder numbering front to rear:
Righthand bank: 1, 2, 3.
Lefthand bank: 4, 5, 6.
Firing order: 1-4-2-5-3-6.


3 - Cylinder numbering front to rear:
Righthand bank: 1, 2, 3, 4
Lefthand bank: 5, 6, 7, 8.
Firing order: 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8.
Refer to Fig. B for ignition coil tower terminal numbering.

4 - Equipped w/hydraulic valve tappets.

5 - Idle speed controlled by an automatic idle speed control.

6 - Non-adjustable. Do not attempt to inspect base timing. False readings will be received.

7 - Equipped w/crankshaft position sensor.
