FLEX FUEL - LONG CRANK/HARD START
FORD:
2004-2006 Taurus
ISSUE
Some 2004-2006 Taurus Flex Fuel (FFV) equipped vehicles, may exhibit a long crank/hard start condition when running on E85 fuel.
ACTION
To resolve the hard start/long crank condition, reprogram the powertrain control module (PCM) using WDS release B41.9 and higher or B42.1 and higher. This new calibration is not included in the B42 CD. If the vehicle has E85 fuel, the first start after reprogramming will be long. It is advisable to fully warm up the engine prior to reprogramming, to facilitate restarting until the PCM can readapt to the type of fuel in the vehicle. Driving approximately 3 to 5 miles (5 to 8 kilometers) after reprogramming will allow the PCM to adapt to the fuel in the tank. The revised calibration files may also be obtained at the website.
