PRINCIPLES OF OPERATIONNOTE: Upon installation of a new GEM, the module must be reconfigured. Refer to Information Bus (Module Communications Network) prior to GEM removal.
The GEM receives inputs and delivers outputs to a majority of the electronically-controlled features of the vehicle. The GEM constantly monitors the systems under its control and reports a concern in the form of a diagnostic trouble code (DTC). The DTC can be retrieved with a diagnostic tool through the international standards organization (ISO) 9141 communication network. The GEM controls the following features:
- battery saver relay
- battery saver
- warning chime
- front and rear wipers
- illuminated entry and interior lighting
- door ajar warning indicator lamp
- remote keyless entry (RKE)
- power door lock system
- perimeter alarm
