Parking Brake System: Description and Operation

Parking Brake

The parking brake system consists of the following components:
- parking brake control
- front parking brake cable
- parking brake cable equalizer
- rear parking brake cables
- rear disc brake
- rear drum brake

The parking brake system is cable operated and controlled by an independent hand-operated parking brake control.

The parking brake system operates the rear drum or rear disc brake system as follows:
- On vehicles with rear brake drums, an independent hand-operated parking brake control lever actuates the rear brake shoes directly through a cable system.
- On vehicles with rear brake discs, an independent hand-operated parking brake control lever actuates a parking brake control lever which is integral to the rear caliper.
