Interior Lighting
INTERIOR LIGHTINGThe system illuminates the interior lamp to improve visibility of the vehicle interior while a door is open.
The front interior lamp will be off, regardless of the state of the interior lighting feature, when the interior lamp switch is in the OFF position.
The front interior lamp will be on, regardless of the state of the interior lighting feature, when the interior lamp switch is in the ON position.
The front interior lamp will follow the status of the illuminated entry feature, when the interior lamp switch is in the illuminated entry position.
The front interior lamp illuminates when any of the following occurs:
- Any of the vehicle's doors are open (not including the tailgate or luggage compartment).
- The ignition switch is in the OFF or ACC position and an UNLOCK command is activated.
- The ignition switch is turned from RUN or START to ACC or OFF.
The front interior lamp will turn off when all of the vehicle's doors are closed (not including the tailgate or luggage compartment) and any of the following occurs:
- 25 seconds has elapsed since either the lights were turned on or the last door was closed while the vehicle is not locked (whichever occurs first).
- The ignition switch is turned from OFF or ACC to RUN or START.
- The ignition switch is in the OFF or ACC position and a LOCK command is activated.
In addition, the front interior lamp turns off when the battery saver relay timer has expired.
When the front interior lamp is turned ON it will ramp up over a 0.7 second time period. When the front interior lamp is turned OFF, it will ramp down over a 1.7 second time period. When the interior lamps are being turned OFF due to the battery saver feature, the lamps will be turned off immediately, with no delay (ramp down).
Illuminated Entry
The illuminated entry feature provides illumination of the front interior lamp when approaching the vehicle for entry.
The illuminated entry feature requests the front interior lamp be lit when the ignition is OFF and an UNLOCK request is received from the remote keyless entry (RKE) transmitter or the key is inserted into the key cylinder. The interior lights will remain illuminated for 25 seconds after the ignition transitions out of OFF or a LOCK request is received.
Illuminated Exit
The illuminated exit feature provides temporary illumination of the interior lights as a convenience during exit.
The illuminated exit feature requests the interior lights be turned on for 25 seconds when all doors are closed and the ignition switch is turned from RUN or ACC to OFF. The illuminated exit feature will request the lamps be turned off when any door is opened, the key is reinserted into the ignition, or 25 seconds has expired. Once a door is opened, the interior lighting feature assumes control of the lamps.
Theater Lighting
The theater lighting feature ramps up (turns on) the interior lights over a 0.7 second period when interior lighting activation is requested by a feature other than the panic alarm or the manual interior lighting switch. The theater lighting feature ramps down (turns off) the interior lights over a 1.7 second period when interior lighting deactivation is requested by any feature other than the panic alarm, battery saver or turning off the manual interior lighting switch.
Demand Lighting
The demand lighting feature provides illumination of a specific area of the interior when requested either directly or indirectly by the operator. The demand lamps are:
- front dome lamp
- map lamps
- luggage compartment lamp (sedan and 3/5 door)
- cargo lamp (station wagon only)
When the operator requests a demand lamp be ON, and the battery saver feature has not disabled the demand lamps, the associated light will be on. When the operator requests a demand lamp be OFF, or the battery saver feature has disabled the demand lamps, the associated light will be off. All other demand lamps will be unaffected by the activation or deactivation of a particular lamp.
The demand lamps feature is operated independently of the ignition state.
The demand lamps feature interacts with the battery saver feature.
Battery Saver
When activated, the battery saver will interrupt power to the interior lighting and the demand lighting. The battery saver feature timing is controlled by the generic electronic module (GEM).
To activate the battery saver feature one of the following events must occur:
- The ignition is transitioned out of OFF.
- Any door is opened.
- The luggage compartment lid or tailgate is opened.
- The hood becomes ajar (only if the vehicle is equipped with a perimeter alarm).
- Any button on an RKE transmitter is pressed.
