CONVERTIBLE TOP RAISE/LOWER INSTRUCTIONS

FORD:
2005 Mustang

ISSUE
The convertible top latching mechanism on the 2005 Mustang is significantly different than prior model years. Vehicle owners may have difficulty in latching the top if they are not aware of the unique operating characteristics of the new latch design.

ACTION
Refer to the following instructions.

OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS

LOWERING THE CONVERTIBLE TOP

NOTE
THE CONVERTIBLE TOP WILL NOT OPERATE UNLESS THE VEHICLE IS TRAVELING LESS THAN 1.8 MPH (3 KM/H).

1. Bring the vehicle to a complete stop and leave the engine running to avoid draining the battery. Engage the parking brake.

2. Check the top's stowage compartment behind the rear seat to make sure it's empty, then check the top's outer surface to make sure it's dry and free of leaves and debris.

3. Unclamp the top from the windshield header by pulling each latch handle down and then rotating the latch to the rear until it clears the header.

NOTE
THE LATCH HANDLES MUST BE PULLED DOWNWARDS COMPLETELY TO ALLOW THE LATCH TO FULLY ROTATE INTO THE OPEN POSITION.

4. If the top has not been lowered for some time, gently push the front edge of the top up to make sure it is not sticking to the header. If it is sticking, this will usually free it.

5. The convertible top switch is located in the overhead console. Push and hold the switch until the windows are down and the top is fully lowered and stowed.

RAISING THE CONVERTIBLE TOP

1. Bring the vehicle to a complete stop and leave the engine running to avoid draining the battery. Engage the parking brake.

2. Push and hold the convertible top switch until the windows lower completely (if up) and the top unfolds and moves forward toward the windshield header.

3. Release the convertible top switch to open both latch handles before the top meets the windshield header.

NOTE
THE LATCH HANDLES MUST BE PULLED DOWNWARDS COMPLETELY TO ALLOW THE LATCH TO FULLY ROTATE INTO THE CLOSED POSITION.

4. Continue to hold the convertible top switch to raise the top until it has reached the fully closed position, flush with the header.

5. The two (2) pins under the forward top edge should align themselves in the matching header holes when latching the top.

6. Secure the driver's side latch first then secure the passenger side. Pull down firmly on the latch handles before rotating them into the windshield header to their full forward position. Pulling down on the latch handles and at the center grip in the header will make it easier to fasten the top.

NOTE
IF THE TOP HAS BEEN IN THE DOWN POSITION (STOWED) FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD, OR IF THE TEMPERATURE IS LOW, THE TOP MATERIAL MAY SHRINK A SMALL AMOUNT. PULLING DOWN ON THE LATCH HANDLES AND AT THE CENTER GRIP IN THE HEADER WILL MAKE IT EASIER TO FASTEN THE TOP.
