Parking Brake System: Description and Operation

Parking Brake
The parking brake system consists of these components:
^ Parking brake control
^ Front parking brake cable
^ Parking brake cable equalizer
^ Rear parking brake cables
^ Rear disc brake
^ Rear drum brake

The parking brake system is cable operated and controlled by an independent hand-operated parking brake control.

The parking brake system operates the rear drum or rear disc brake system as follows:
^ On vehicles with rear brake drums, an independent hand-operated parking brake control lever actuates the rear brake shoes directly through a cable system.
^ On vehicles with rear brake discs, an independent hand-operated parking brake control lever actuates a parking brake control lever which is integral to the rear caliper.
