Crankshaft Position Sensor: Service and Repair

Removal
1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist.
2. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
3. Remove the 2 retaining screws and the crankshaft pulley shield.
4. Disconnect the crankshaft position (CKP) sensor electrical connector.
5. Remove the engine front plug.
6. Turn the crankshaft pulley bolt to position the No. 1 cylinder at top dead center and install the special tool.
7. Remove the CKP sensor retaining bolts and the sensor.
8. CAUTION: Only hand-tighten the bolt or damage to the front cover can occur.
Install a 6 mm x 18 mm standard bolt.
Installation
1. Install the CKP sensor, but do not tighten the bolts at this time.
2. NOTE: The crankshaft position (CKP) sensor alignment tool is supplied with the new sensor and is not available separately.
Adjust the CKP sensor alignment jig and tighten the 2 CKP sensor bolts to 7 Nm (62 lb-in).
3. Connect the CKP sensor electrical connector.
4. Remove the 6 mm bolt.
5. Remove the crankshaft timing peg.
6. Install the engine front plug.
- Tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).
7. Install the crankshaft pulley shield and tighten the 2 retaining screws.
