Removal and Installation

Vehicles without secondary air injection
1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist.

All vehicles
2. Disconnect the battery ground cable.

Vehicles with secondary air injection







3. Disconnect the electrical connector and detach the wiring retainer.
4. Remove the evaporative emissions (EVAP) canister purge valve heat shield.
- To install, snap the heat shield back in place.

5. Remove the 4 bolts and position the exhaust manifold heat shield aside.
- To install, tighten to 11 Nm (8 lb-ft).

6. NOTE: If necessary, lubricate the heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) with penetrating and lock lubricant to assist in removal.

Using a 22 mm crows foot wrench, remove the HO2S.
- To install, tighten to 48 Nm (35 lb-ft).

Vehicles without secondary air injection
7. Unsnap the electrical connector heat shield.







8. Disconnect the electrical connector and detach the wiring retainer.

9. NOTE: If necessary, lubricate the heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) with penetrating and lock lubricant to assist in removal.

Using a 22 mm crows foot wrench, remove the HO2S.
- To install, tighten to 48 Nm (35 lb-ft).

All vehicles

10. CAUTION:
- Make sure that the electrical connector locking tab is engaged.
- Make sure that the sensor wiring is secured with all retainers and routed away from hot surfaces and sharp edges.


NOTE: Make sure to apply anti-seize lubricant to the threads of the sensors before installation.

To install, reverse the removal procedure.
