Interior - Carpet Pulling Out From Under Scuff Plate

INTERIOR TRIM - CARPET PULLING FROM UNDER
LEFT OR RIGHT FRONT SCUFF PLATE TRIM PANEL

2005-2007 Focus
This article supersedes TSB 06-5-6 to update the vehicle model years.
ISSUE
Some 2005-2007 Focus vehicles may exhibit the carpet pulling out from under the right and/or left front scuff plate trim panels near the cowl side trim panel (A-pillar lower trim panel).
ACTION
Install a spacer under the carpet on the affected side and apply double sided trim repair tape as necessary. Refer to the following Service Procedure.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
1. Remove the front scuff plate trim panel on side where carpet is pulling out. Refer to Workshop Manual, Section 501-05.
2. Inspect carpet for broken retaining clips in front scuff plate area. If clips are broken then carpet must be replaced and cannot be repaired using the procedure in this article.
3. Remove carpet retaining clips from scuff plate slots and check for separation of lining on back side of carpet.
4. If carpet lining is separated from carpet, adhere lining to carpet using a double sided trim repair tape (obtain locally).
5. Use a heat gun to heat adhesive on back of carpet spacer. Heat adhesive until it is tacky.
6. Install carpet spacer on inside of scuff plate. Refer to Figure 1.
NOTE
THE WIDE END OF THE TAPERED CARPET SPACER GOES TOWARD THE FLOOR PAN.
7. Adhere carpet to scuff plate as necessary using double sided trim repair tape (obtain locally).
NOTE
BE CAREFUL NOT TO COVER CARPET RETAINING CLIP OR SCUFF PLATE TRIM PANEL RETAINING CLIP SLOTS IN SCUFF PLATE WITH TAPE.
8. Install carpet retaining clips in scuff plate slots.
9. Install the front scuff plate trim panel. Refer to Workshop Manual, Section 501-05.
