Interior - Console Arm Rest Pivot Loose

CENTER CONSOLE ARM REST PIVOT LOOSE

2000-2007 Focus
ISSUE
Some 2000-2007 Focus vehicles equipped with a folding center arm rest may experience the center console arm rest coming loose at its pivot area. This may be caused by the console pivot pin cap nut coming off. Replacement of the center console arm rest assembly is no longer necessary with the release of this service kit.
ACTION
Replace the center console arm rest pivot pin and cap nut with the parts contained in the Hinge Pin Kit using the following procedure.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
1. Position front seats to access armrest pivot area.
2. Remove arm rest pivot trim cover caps and inspect pivot pin retaining nut for damage. If pin or nut is damaged, proceed to Step 3. If pin or nut is not damaged, this TSB does not apply.
3. Open arm rest cover and remove the three (3) hinge to body screws (Figure 1).
4. Remove two (2) screws (one on each side). (Figure 2)
5. Remove arm rest storage compartment inner housing to reveal pivot pin (Figure 3).
6. Remove pin, using a small hammer and drift, by tapping from drivers side and removing from passenger side.
TIP: Rotation of pin, arm rest bracket and housing, for alignment purposes, may be required to allow pin removal.
7. Using Hinge Pin Kit, install pin through bracket and housing.
8. Using a suitable c-clamp (Figure 4) compress arm rest bracket to allow end of pin to protrude through bracket and install cap nut.
9. Drive cap nut onto pin using a suitable driver.
CAUTION
WHEN INSTALLING NUT, DO NOT ALLOW IMPACT TO END OF PIVOT PIN OR DAMAGE MAY OCCUR RESULTING IN INSUFFICIENT NUT RETENTION.
10. Reinstall arm rest storage compartment inner housing and screws. Tighten to 18 lb-in (2 N.m)
11. Reinstall arm rest cover with the three (3) attaching screws. Tighten to 18 lb-in (2 N.m).
12. Reinstall arm rest pivot covers.
