Suspension - Rear End Rattling On Small Bumps

FOCUS REAR SHOCK "CHUCKLE" NOISE OVER BUMPS

FORD:
2006-2007 Focus

ISSUE
Some 2006-2007 Focus vehicles (not Wagons) may experience a "Rattle" or "Loose Lumber" type noise from the rear of the vehicle when driving slowly over small bumps in a road surface or parking lot. This may be caused by a reaction in the upper shock mount.

ACTION
Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition.

SERVICE PROCEDURE





1. Remove upper shock mount, pictured below, following Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 204-02. (Figure 1)





2. Remove upper shock mount washer. (Figure 2)





3. Turn washer over to other side (Ford oval will be facing down in vehicle) and reinstall in mount. (Figure 3)





4. Reinstall upper mount and torque with a N[W nut (W520102-5441) to 13 lb-ft (18 N.m) following WSM, Section 204-02. (Figure 4)
