SQUEAKING NOISE FROM 9 SPOKE WHEEL COVERS

FORD:
2004-2006 Focus

ISSUE
Some 2004-2006 Focus vehicles, equipped with 15" nine (9) spoke wheel covers, may exhibit a squeaking noise from the wheel covers.

ACTION

Use the following Service Procedure to install urethane foam tape to the back of the wheel covers.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1. Remove wheel covers.





2. Clean each wheel cover in nine (9) locations behind each retention leg with alcohol (Figure 1).

3. Obtain six (6) pieces of urethane tape (hard foam) Part Number 164-R4902 from the Rotunda Squeak and Rattle Kit.

NOTE
THE COST OF THE URETHANE TAPE MAY BE REIMBURSED AS OUTSIDE PURCHASED PARTS (OSP). THE TAPE CAN BE ORDERED SEPARATELY THROUGH ROTUNDA (1-800-ROTUNDA). ONE PACKAGE OF 164-R4902 URETHANE TAPE CONTAINS TWELVE (12) PIECES (ENOUGH TO REPAIR TWO (2) VEHICLES). LIMIT THE AMOUNT CLAIMED TO THE MATERIAL USED FOR THE REPAIR.

4. Cut each of the six (6) pieces of urethane tape obtained in Step 3 into six (6) 1" (25 mm) wide pieces.





5. Remove the backing from the cut pieces of urethane tape and install one (1) piece behind each of the nine (9) retention legs of each wheel cover (Figure 2).

NOTE
THE EDGE OF THE URETHANE FOAM TAPE MUST LINE UP WITH THE OUTSIDE EDGE OF THE WHEEL COVER.

6. Reinstall wheel covers.
