Disassembly





1. Install the special tools.
1 Install the thrust element.
2 Insert the tapered insert
3 Install the puller.





2. Install the special tools.
1 Install the half shells of the insert.
2 Install the half shells to the basic tool.





3. Using the special tools, remove the differential bearing. Discard the bearing.





4. Turn the differential and repeat the tool installation. Remove the other differential bearing. Discard the bearing.





5. Remove the trigger wheel.





6. Remove the ring gear bolts. Lightly tap the ring gear to remove.

Assembly

1. NOTE: New taper roller bearings can be installed without any treatment.

Clean and check all parts for wear or damage. Lubricate with transmission fluid during reassembly.
2. Install the gear to the differential, then install the ring gear bolts. Tighten the bolts in a star pattern.
^ Tighten to 88 Nm (65 ft. lbs.).





3. Install the trigger wheel and differential bearings.
1 Install the trigger wheel in the housing recess.
2 Using the special tools, install the differential bearings.
