Interior Lighting
Interior Lighting
NOTE: The Smart Junction Box (SJB) is also known as the Generic Electronic Module (GEM).
The interior lighting system consists of the following components:
- SJB
- Instrument panel dimmer switch
- Interior/map lamps
- Door ajar switches (integrated into the door latches)
- Luggage compartment lamp
- Luggage compartment lid ajar switch (integrated into the luggage compartment lid latch)
- Ambient lighting module (if equipped)
- Ambient lighting switch (if equipped) (part of the Passenger Air Bag Deactivation (PAD) indicator)
- Ambient lighting harness (if equipped)
The interior lighting system can consist of up to 3 subsystems:
- Courtesy lamps
- Demand lamps
- Ambient lighting (if equipped)
Courtesy Lamps
The courtesy lamps are controlled by the SJB. The courtesy lamp subsystem consists of the interior/map lamps. The SJB turns the courtesy lamps on when a door is opened or when a request is detected from the instrument panel dimmer switch. The courtesy lamps also illuminate when an unlock signal is received from the Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) transmitter.
Interior Lighting Delay
The interior lighting delay feature provides temporary illumination of the parking lamps, the dimmable lighting and the courtesy lamps after the doors are opened and then closed. The interior lighting delay feature keeps the courtesy lamps on for a period of 25 seconds after all the doors are closed. If during the 25-second delay time the SJB detects that the ignition has been switched out of off, or if the vehicle is locked using the RKE, the courtesy lamp illumination is discontinued.
Illuminated Entry
The illuminated entry requests the parking lamps, the dimmable lighting and the courtesy lamps to be illuminated when the ignition is off and either the RKE transmitter UNLOCK button is pressed, or the vehicle is unlocked using the driver door lock cylinder. The illuminated entry requests the courtesy lamps and dimmable backlighting off after 25 seconds have elapsed, the ignition is switched out of off or the RKE transmitter LOCK button is pressed.
Illuminated Exit
The illuminated exit requests the parking lamps, the dimmable lighting and the courtesy lamps to be illuminated for 25 seconds when all doors are closed and the ignition key is removed from the ignition lock cylinder. The illuminated exit deactivates when the ignition key is inserted into the ignition lock cylinder, a door becomes ajar, or 25 seconds have elapsed.
Theater Lighting
The theater lighting option ramps-up the courtesy lamps over 0.7 second when courtesy lamp activation is requested. The theater lighting feature ramps-down the courtesy lamps over 1.7 seconds when interior lighting deactivation is requested by any feature other than the panic alarm or battery saver.
Demand Lamps
The demand lamps system consists of the front dome map lamps. The SJB controls the demand lamps by providing ground for the battery saver relay.
Ambient Lighting
The ambient lighting system consists of the ambient lighting switch, the ambient lighting module, and the harness with hardwired LEDs all located within the floor console. The ambient lighting is operational when the ignition key is in the ACC or RUN position. The ambient lighting switch is used to cycle the LEDs through 7 different color combinations or to turn the ambient lighting off. The ambient lighting LEDs illuminate the cup holders (front and rear) and the front and rear footwell areas.
Battery Saver
NOTE: Time-out is 1 minute if the vehicle has less than 80 km (50 miles).
The SJB provides automatic shut-off of the demand lamps and courtesy lamps after 10 minutes in order to save battery voltage. A timer in the SJB is started when the ignition is turned to the OFF position and all the doors are closed. When 10 minutes have elapsed, the voltage is automatically shut off to the lamps by the SJB. While the SJB has voltage disabled, if the ignition is turned to any position other than OFF, any door becomes ajar, the UNLOCK button of the Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) transmitter is pressed, a valid keypad code is entered, an unlock request from the door lock cylinder is received, or the instrument panel dimmer switch is turned on, the SJB restores voltage and starts the timer again.
