Collision Avoidance and Parking Assist Systems: Description and Operation

Parking Aid

The parking aid system consists of:

- Four ultrasonic parking aid sensors (located in the rear bumper cover)

- Parking Aid Module (PAM) and parking aid speaker (both located behind the LR quarter trim panel)

- Parking aid disable feature (integral to the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) message center)

The parking aid system calculates the distance to an object around the rear of the vehicle using 4 ultrasonic sensors. The parking aid system sounds a warning to alert the driver of stationary objects near the rear bumper when reverse is selected.

The rear sensors are activated when reverse is selected. The parking aid system assists the driver in detecting certain objects while the vehicle moves slowly in reverse at speeds of less than 4.8 km/h (3 mph). The parking aid system may not detect moving objects.

Video

The rear video camera system consists of the following:

- Video camera (located in the rear spoiler)

- Auto-dimming interior mirror (without navigation)

- Front Display Interface Module (FDIM) (with navigation)

The video camera is activated when the transmission selector is in the REVERSE (R) position. The image from the rear video camera is displayed in the LH side of the auto-dimming interior mirror (without navigation) or the FDIM (Front Display Interface Module) (with navigation).
