A/T - 700R4 Throttle Valve Sticking/Low Line Pressure
TSB 86-2 (Jan)SUBJECT: 1982 700 R4
PROBLEM:
Throttle valve sticking, or low line pressure, or burned 3-4 clutch and/or band
CAUSE:
1982 Separator Plates, and possibly other early plates, are a major cause of the above problem.
SOLUTION:
It is adviseable NEVER to reuse a plate with a letter designation stamped on it, of "A" through "D".
BUT, IF IT IS ESSENTIAL AT THE TIME, TO RE-USE SUCH PLATES, then the throttle TV hole, as indicated by the arrow, must be drilled into the plate.
This applies particularly to the "A" plates.
Use the gasket as guide for hole location. Drill to .046" to .055".
It is advised to enlarge the hole on all plates, even the latest ones, as listed here:
Latest GM plate #'s are:
8654351 - For Gas
8654352 - For Diesel
These plates are inexpensive, and it would be wise to order them ahead, and keep them in stock.
There are orificing and channeling revisions/updates on these plates.
