Hard to Start
DEFINITION: Engine cranks okay, but does not start for a long time. Will eventually start, or stalls after starting.Carefully perform a visual check.
Verify driver is following correct procedure for starting engine.
CHECK:
- EGR stuck open.
- PCV valve stuck open or disconnected.
- Blown ignition fuse.
- Low fuel in tank.
- Faulty fuel pump.
- Low fuel pressure.
- Air valve faulty.
- Intermittent crank signal to ECM.
- Faulty MAT sensor signal.
- Faulty coolant temperature sensor signal.
- Faulty pressure sensor signal.
- Faulty ECM.
- Faulty spark plug wire.
- Faulty or loose distributor cap, crack in cap.
- Damaged distributor rotor.
- Faulty or fouled spark plugs.
- Dirty or plugged fuel filter, or fuel lines.
- Improper ignition timing.
- Misadjusted pickup coil in distributor.
- Faulty Electronic Spark Advance (ESA).
- Faulty ignition coil.
- Faulty noise suppressor.
- Fuel pump intermittently not working.
- Loose spark plugs.
- Low compression.
