Fuel Injector: Service and Repair

Fuel Injector:

Clamping Subwire:

The fuel injector is serviced only as a complete assembly.

NOTE: Use care when opening claws on electrical coupler, as opening too far may cause damage.

Use care when handling the injector, to prevent damage especially to the filter and the injector needle. Also, because the injector is an electrical component, it should not be immersed in any type of liquid solvent or cleaner, as damage may occur.

REMOVE OR DISCONNECT:

1. Relieve fuel pressure.

2. Negative battery cable.

3. Air cleaner assembly.

4. Air cleaner mounting bracket from throttle body.

5. Injector cover and upper insulator.

6. Electrical connector from injector.

7. Fuel injector.

8. Inspect fuel injector filter for dirt or damage. If dirt is present check for dirt in fuel lines and fuel tank.

NOTE: Be sure to replace injector with an identical part. Other injectors may appear to be the same, but they are calibrated differently for different flow rates. Never twist injector while installing as damage or misplacement of O-rings may occur.

INSTALL OR CONNECT:

1. Apply a thin coat of transmission oil or gasoline to the new upper and lower O-rings, install them on the injector.

2. New lower injector insulator in injector cavity.

3. Fuel injector. Push it straight into fuel injection cavity.

4. New upper insulator and injector cover. See "SPECIFICATIONS."

5. Injector electrical coupler to injector, facing it lug side upward on clamp subwire securely.

6. Battery negative cable.
