General System Description

This vehicle uses two types of ignition systems, a conventional solid state ignition system with vacuum/centrifugal spark control, and an electronic spark control system which solely uses the Electronic Control Module (ECM) to control spark.

The conventional distributor system consists of the ignition coil, distributor assembly (cap, rotor, signal rotor and pick-up coil, ignition module (igniter), vacuum advancer, and centrifugal advancer), spark plugs and secondary wiring.

The Electronic distributor system consists of the ECM, ignition module (igniter), ignition coil, distributor assembly cap, rotor, signal rotor and pick-up coil, spark plugs and secondary wiring.

These systems control fuel combustion by providing a spark to ignite the compressed air/fuel mixture at the correct time. To provide improved engine performance, fuel economy, and control of exhaust emissions.
