Ignition Lock Cylinder

REMOVAL
1. On 1991-92 models, deactivate airbag as described under MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES/AIR BAG DEACTIVATION.
2. On all models, remove turn signal/dimmer switch as described under TURN SIGNAL & DIMMER SWITCH.
3. Disconnect ignition switch and key warning electrical connectors.
4. Lift up floor mat at steering shaft and remove steering column coupling cover cover.
5. Remove upper steering shaft coupling bolt, then connect ignition switch and key warning electrical connectors.
6. Remove steering column attaching nuts, then remove column assembly.
7. Using a center punch, loosen and remove steering lock attaching bolts, Fig. 2.
8. Place ignition switch in ACC or On position and remove from steering column.

INSTALLATION
1. Position oblong hole on steering shaft at center of hole in steering column, Fig. 3.
2. Place ignition switch in ACC or On position.
3. Position ignition switch to steering column, then place switch in Lock position.
4. Align ignition switch hub with oblong hole on steering shaft, then rotate steering shaft to ensure it locks.
5. Install replacement ignition switch attaching bolts. Tighten bolts until bolt head breaks off, Fig. 4.
6. Place ignition switch in On or ACC and check for smooth steering shaft rotation. Also check steering shaft lock for proper operation.
7. Insert steering shaft into coupling, aligning flat on end of steering shaft with bolt hole on coupling, Fig. 5.
8. Position steering column mounting brackets to mounting studs, then install and torque attaching nuts to 10 lb ft
9. Install steering shaft coupling bolt and torque to 18 lb ft
10. Install steering shaft coupling cover.
11. Install turn signal/dimmer switch as described under TURN SIGNAL & DIMMER SWITCH.
12. On 1991-92 models, reactivate airbag as described under MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES/AIR BAG ACTIVATION.
