Evacuating A/C System

Charging A/C System:

If the A/C system has been opened for repair, or R-12 has been lost, or if it has been exposed to outside air of any kind, the system must be evacuated prior to charging.

Important
^ The discharging, evacuating, and recharging procedures should be performed without removing the manifold gage hoses from the vehicle.

Tools Required:
J 23575-01 Manifold Gage Set
Vacuum Hose Adapters
Vacuum Pump

1. Engine should be "OFF" and the low-side hose of the manifold gage should be connected to the low-side line fitting, the high-side hose to the high-side fitting.
2. Connect vacuum pump to center hose of manifold set.
3. Start vacuum pump and open manifold low-side valve all the way.
4. The system is now being evacuated.

Evacuate A/C system for fifteen to twenty minutes if the work done on the system has been relatively minor. If major repairs were made or if the system had been open to outside air for a long period of time, continue procedure for at least thirty minutes.
