Removal and Replacement


1. Install engine support fixture No. J-28467-A or equivalent.
2. Remove battery hold-down, battery and battery tray.
3. Remove air cleaner assembly and neutral start switch connector.
4. Disconnect ground cable at transaxle and throttle cable from throttle body.
5. Disconnect transmission cooling lines and plug them to prevent excess leakage.
6. Remove shift cable retainer and end clip, then disconnect shift cable from brackets and lay aside.
7. Disconnect upper shift cable bracket from transaxle.
8. Remove left transaxle mount brace and through bolt.
9. Remove two upper transaxle to engine bolts, upper starter bolts and speedometer cable.
10. Raise and support vehicle.
11. Remove right and left lower stone shields and drain transaxle oil.
12. Disconnect starter electrical connectors and remove bottom starter bolt and starter.
13. Remove front drive axles.
14. Remove three center crossmember to radiator support bolts and front and center mount bolt shields.
15. Remove two front mount bolts, two center mount bolts, two rear mount nuts and two center crossmember to main crossmember bolts.
16. Remove three exhaust hanger bracket nuts and exhaust hanger, eight main crossmember to underbody bolts and two lower A-frame bracket to underbody bolts, then remove main crossmember.
17. Remove front mount through bolt and mount, front mount bracket and center mount from transaxle.
18. Remove torque converter bolt shield and torque converter to flywheel bolts.
19. Remove two lower transaxle bracket to mount bolts, then lower vehicle.
20. Remove remaining transaxle mount to bracket bolt, then lower transaxle with engine support fixture to gain necessary clearance to remove transaxle.
21. Raise and support vehicle.
22. Support transaxle with a suitable transmission jack, then remove front and rear lower transaxle to engine bolts.
23. Remove transaxle from vehicle.
24. Reverse procedure to install, refering to SPECIFICATIONS/MECHANICAL SPECIFICATIONS/TIGHTENING SPECIFICATIONS for proper bolt and nut torques.
