Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview

1. Refer to troubleshooting charts, Fig. 1.
2. If instructed to read a type A code, refer to Fig. 2, and proceed as follows:
a. Turn ignition switch on.
b. Turn set/coast switch on.
c. Push main switch on.
d. Turn set/coast switch off.
e. Meet conditions listed in chart. Checking of No. 4 code is done with front of vehicle raised and supported and with engine idling.
f. Read diagnostic code on main switch indicator. If there is no indication code, refer to DIAGNOSTIC CHARTS.
3. If instructed to read a type B code, refer to Fig. 3, and proceed as follows:
a. If, while driving with cruise control on, the system is cancelled by a malfunction in either the actuator or the speed sensor, the main switch indicator will blink 5 times.
b. While driving at a speed of no more than 10 mph, press set/coast switch three times within two seconds. In order to save diagnostic code(s) when a malfunction has occurred, always inspect with ignition and main switches on. Should the power be cut, the diagnostic code(s) will be erased from the computer memory. If there is no indication code, refer to DIAGNOSTIC CHARTS.
