Engine: Service and Repair
1. Disconnect battery ground and positive cables, then remove battery and engine compartment hood.
2. Remove right and left side engine undercovers.
3. Drain engine oil into suitable container.
4. Drain coolant from radiator and engine block into suitable container.
5. On models equipped with man. trans., Drain transaxle fluid into suitable container.
6. Remove air cleaner assembly and coolant reservoir tank.
7. Loosen the power steering pump mounting bolt and through bolt. Remove the drive belt.
8. Disconnect heater hoses from coolant inlet housing.
9. Disconnect fuel pressure hose from fuel filter, then the heater and air hoses from air valve.
10. Disconnect fuel return hose from fuel pressure regulator.
11. On models equipped with man. trans., remove clutch slave cylinder without disconnecting hydraulic line and position aside.
12. On all models, disconnect vacuum hose from charcoal canister.
13. Disconnect transaxle shift control cables from transaxle.
14. Disconnect speedometer cable, then the cruise control cable (if equipped), accelerator cable and accelerator link.
15. On models equipped with cruise control, remove cruise control actuator.
16. Disconnect engine main electrical harness from all related sensors and switches.
17. On all models, disconnect brake booster hose from intake manifold.
18. Remove A/C compressor and power steering pump (if equipped) with lines attached and position aside.
19. Disconnect electrical connectors.
20. Disconnect drive axles.
21. Raise and support vehicle, then disconnect catalytic converter clamp, engine pipe clamp and engine pipe from exhaust manifold.
22. Disconnect engine mounts.
23. Remove transaxle mounts.
24. Remove axle shafts from side gear shafts and position aside with suitable wire.
25. Lower vehicle to ground level.
26. Attach suitable lifting equipment to engine/transaxle assembly, then remove right and left side mounts.
27. Carefully lift engine/transaxle assembly from vehicle and place on suitable stand.
28. Remove the power steering pump as soon as there is sufficient clearance to remove the through bolt.
NOTE: Clear the right mount by lowering the transaxle. Be careful not to hit the power steering gear housing or the throttle position sensor. Make sure the engine is clear of all wiring, hoses and clamps.
29. Reverse procedure to install.
