Refrigerant Oil: Service and Repair

Charging A/C System:

Adding A/C Oil

This procedure is for adding oil to the A/C system via the low-side line fitting AFTER it has been discharged and evacuated, and BEFORE it is charged. It is also possible to add oil to the system via the compressor after it has been discharged and evacuated

1. Measure the amount of A/C oil which was expelled from the system during the discharge procedure. Put this amount of new oil into container.
2. With vehicle engine "OFF," disconnect Schrader. valve fitting from the end of the center manifold hose. Place hose in oil container.
3. Open low-side manifold valve. The vacuum in the system will suck the oil from the container into the line.

Important
^ If a system component has been replaced, the oil which was in the component will have to be added to the system. Drain the oil from the old component, measure the amount, and add that much new oil to the A/C system.
