Manual Transmission/Transaxle: Service and Repair


1. Disconnect battery ground and positive cables.
2. Support engine using support tool No. J-28467-A, or equivalent.
3. Remove battery and battery tray.
4. Remove air cleaner assembly.
5. Disconnect back-up switch.
6. Disconnect ground cable at transaxle.
7. Remove two actuator mounting bolts.
8. Remove actuator line bracket.
9. Remove shift cable retainers, end clips and cables from bracket and lay aside.
10. Remove left transaxle mount cover, brace and through bolt.
11. Remove two upper transaxle to engine bolts.
12. Remove starter assembly.
13. Disconnect speedometer cable.
14. Raise and support vehicle.
15. Remove right and left stone shields.
16. Drain transaxle oil.
17. Remove drive axles.
18. Remove three center crossmember to radiator support bolts.
19. Remove front and center mount bolt shields.
20. Remove front, center and rear mount nuts.
21. Remove two center crossmember to main crossmember bolts.
22. Remove exhaust hangers.
23. Support main crossmember using a suitable jack.
24. Remove eight main crossmember to underbody bolts.
25. Remove two lower A-frame bracket to underbody bolts. Lower main crossmember slowly while holding onto the center crossmember. Center crossmember will be free to fall at this time and could cause serious bodily injury.
26. Remove front through bolt and mount.
27. Remove front mount bracket from transaxle.
28. Remove center mount from transaxle.
29. Remove transaxle inspection cover.
30. Remove two lower transaxle bracket to mount bolts.
31. Lower vehicle.
32. Remove remaining transaxle mount to bracket bolts.
33. Lower transaxle using engine support tool No. J-28467, or equivalent to gain clearance to remove transaxle.
34. Remove transaxle mount.
35. Raise and support vehicle.
36. Support transaxle using a suitable jack.
37. Remove front and rear lower transaxle to engine bolts.
38. Lower transaxle from vehicle.
39. Reverse procedure to install.
