CODE 24 VEHICLE SPEED SENSOR (VSS) CIRCUITCode Chart 24:
Back-Up Vehicle Speed Sensor Circuit:
CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION:
The ECM provides a B+ signal to the Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS). The VSS will toggle this signal low, indicating the vehicle is moving.
TEST DESCRIPTION: Numbers below refer to the circled numbers on the diagnostic chart.
1. If speedometer does not work, it could be the cause of Code 24.
2. The vehicle speed sensor on the back of the instrument panel will toggle the B+ supplied by the ECM. Code 24 will set if:
^ Engine speed is between 1800 and 4400 rpm.
^ Less than 1 mile/hr. (1.1 km/hr.) is sensed.
DIAGNOSTIC AIDS:
An intermittent may be caused by a poor connection, rubbed through wire insulation or a wire broken inside the insulation. Inspect the ECM harness connectors for backed out terminals, improper mating, broken locks, improperly formed or damaged terminals, poor terminal to wire connection and damaged harness. If no trouble is found and Code 24 resets, replace the ECM.
