CODE 31 SHIFT SOLENOID "A"Code Chart 31:
Transaxle Valve Body Circuit:
CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION:
Based on the signal from the ECU, the oil circuits are changed to control shifting, lock-up operation and engine braking. When shift solenoid "A" is in a normal mode, the transaxle shifts according to the throttle opening. If either solenoid "A" or "B" fails, a mechanical hydraulic circuit is established as a back-up.
TEST DESCRIPTION: Numbers below refer to the circled numbers on the diagnostic chart.
1. With DVM, there should be B+ at BRN/YEL wire with key "ON."
2. There should be no voltage with drive wheels turning in second gear.
3. Resistance of solenoid should be 20 to 30 ohms.
DIAGNOSTIC AIDS:
A faulty connection or an open or short in the BRN/YEL wire can result in a Code 31. An intermittent may be caused by a poor connection, rubbed through wire insulation or a wire broken inside the insulation.
