Transaxle Control System

CODE 33 OVERRUN CLUTCH SOLENOID

Code Chart 33:

Transaxle Valve Body Circuit:

CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION:

The overrun clutch engages when the solenoid valve is in a non-energized state so that the engine brake can always work during deceleration. The ECU supplies B+ to BRN/BLK wire to release the overrun clutch during steady throttle conditions.

TEST DESCRIPTION: Numbers below refer to the circled numbers on the diagnostic chart.

1. With key "ON," there should be less than 1.0 volt on BRN/BLK wire.

2. When in D4 range, B+ is supplied to overrun clutch solenoid.

3. On acceleration, voltage is removed from solenoid. On deceleration, voltage is supplied to solenoid.

4. Resistance of solenoid should be 20 to 30 ohms.

5. Check neutral safety switch for proper adjustment.

DIAGNOSTIC AIDS:

A faulty connection or an open or short in the BRN/BLK wire can result in a Code 33. An intermittent may be caused by a poor connection, rubbed through wire insulation or a wire broken inside the insulation.
