CODE 34 LOCK UP DUTY SOLENOIDCode Chart 34:
Transaxle Valve Body Circuit:
CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION:
The purpose of the Torque Converter Clutch (TCC) lock-up duty solenoid is to eliminate the power loss of the converter stage when the vehicle is in a cruise condition. This allows the convenience of the automatic transaxle and the fuel economy of a manual transaxle. Lock-up only takes place when in the economy mode. The ECU supplies B+ to the lock-up solenoid to energize the solenoid for lock-up.
TEST DESCRIPTION: Numbers below refer to the circled numbers on the diagnostic chart.
1. With key "ON," there should be less than 1.0 volt on BRN/WHT wire.
2. ECU should apply B+ to lock-up solenoid above 40 mph.
3. Resistance of solenoid should be 20 to 30 ohms.
DIAGNOSTIC AIDS:
Make sure vehicle is in the economy mode when checking lock-up. A faulty connection or an open or short in the BRN/WHT wire can result in a Code 34. An intermittent may be caused by a poor connection, rubbed through wire insulation or a wire broken inside the insulation.
