Automatic Transmission/Transaxle: Service and Repair
1. Disconnect negative battery cable.
2. Remove battery and battery tray.
3. Remove air duct, then air breather tube from air cleaner assembly.
4. On KF 400 models, disconnect vacuum diaphragm at vacuum hose.
5. On all models, disconnect electrical connectors from transaxle, then shift cable from lever.
6. Disconnect shift cable bracket from transaxle case.
7. remove breather hose from transaxle, then the speedometer cable.
8. Install engine support fixture tool No. J 28467-A or equivalent to engine.
9. Remove left transaxle mount through bolt, then four transaxle to engine mounting bolts.
10. Raise and support vehicle.
11. Remove left and right undercovers, then front wheel and tire assemblies
12. Disconnect left control arm from steering knuckle.
13. Drain transaxle fluid.
14. Disconnect drive axles from transaxle.
15. Remove front transaxle mount through bolt, then dampener from rear mount through bolt.
16. Remove rear transaxle mount through bolt, then two front center crossmember mounting bolts.
17. Disconnect front pipe to exhaust manifold.
18. Remove two rear crossmember mounting bolts.
19. Remove center crossmember bolts from vehicle, place suitable transaxle jack under transaxle.
20. Remove rear mount to transaxle case bolt, then front mount retaining bolt.
21. Remove front mount bracket from the engine, then the flywheel cover.
22. Remove flywheel to torque converter bolts.
23. Disconnect oil cooler lines from transaxle.
24. Remove two rear mount transaxle bolts, then carefully lower transaxle from vehicle.
25. Reverse procedure to install. Torque transaxle mount through bolt to 64 ft. lbs. Flywheel to torque converter bolts to 31 ft. lbs.
