Air Temperature Sensor ( Ambient / Intake ): Description and Operation

Located in the side of air cleaner case, the Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor constantly measures the temperature of the air entering the manifold. The sensor is a thermistor, that is, as air temperature lowers, resistance increases and as it rises, resistance decreases. As air temperature of the intake varies, the ECM, by monitoring the voltage drop, adjusts the amount of fuel injection accordingly.
