SUBJECT: 1991 STORM BASE/GSI (CALIFORNIA EMISSIONS) FALSE ECM CODE # 32

A LIMITED NUMBER OF 1991 STORM BASE/GSI (CALIFORNIA EMISSIONS) MAY SET A FALSE ECM CODE # 32.

THIS CONDITION CAN OCCUR WHEN THE ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE IS 67 DEGREES OR BELOW FAHRENHEIT.

TO DETERMINE IF THE SYSTEM HAS SET A FALSE CODE, WARM THE ENGINE TO ABOVE 67 DEGREES FAHRENHEIT, TURN IGNITION OFF AND RESTART. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WILL TURN OFF.

TO REPAIR THIS PROBLEM IT WILL BE NECESSARY TO REPLACE THE ECM.

AN ADDITIONAL DCS MESSAGE WILL FOLLOW SHORTLY WITH UPDATED ECM PART NUMBERS.

CURRENTLY THERE ARE INSUFFICIENT PARTS IN GMSPO TO MEET THE ANTICIPATED DEMAND, HOWEVER, THIS SHORTAGE SITUATION WILL IMPROVE DRAMATICALLY BY NOVEMBER 1, 1990. WE EXPECT TO BE ABLE TO MEET THE DEMAND REQUIREMENTS AFTER THAT DATE.

WHEN THE CONDITION OCCURS THERE ARE NO EMISSIONS OR PERFORMANCE PROBLEMS.
SHOULD YOU CONTINUE TO HAVE PROBLEMS WITH AN INDIVIDUAL UNIT, TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE NETWORK SHOULD BE CONTACTED FOR FURTHER INSTRUCTIONS.
