Idle Speed: Adjustments

Idle Speed Adjusting Screw:






Before starting engine, place gear selector in Park (Neutral for M/T), set parking brake, and block drive wheels.

1. Inspect lead wires and hoses of EFI and engine emissions control systems for being connected securely.

2. Check accelerator cable for proper play.

3. Make sure air cleaner is installed correctly.

4. Turn "OFF" all accessories (A/C, wipers, heater, lights, etc.).

5. Start engine and allow it to reach normal operating temperature.

6. Check ignition timing, and adjust if necessary.

7. Remove cover on Idle Speed Adjusting screw.

8. Connect a tachometer.

Diagnosis Switch Terminal:






9. Install a spare fuse to diagnosis switch terminal in fuse block.

10. Check idle speed. Refer to SPECIFICATIONS.

11. If necessary, correct idle speed by turning idle speed adjusting screw IN to increase or OUT to decrease.
IF EQUIPPED WITH A/C:
a. Remove air cleaner assembly and plug vacuum hoses.
b. Start engine and let idle with A/C "ON."

A/C VSV Adjusting Screw:






c. Check idle speed, adjust as necessary by adjusting the A/C vacuum switching valve idle screw. Refer to SPECIFICATIONS.

12. Remove spare fuse from diagnosis switch terminal.

13. Disconnect tachometer.

14. Install idle speed screw cover.
