Shift Interlock: Description and Operation

Battery voltage is applied through the ECU-IG Fuse to the SHIFT LOCK CONTROL MODULE when the ignition switch is in "ON." Voltage is also applied at all times through the STOP Fuse and through the STOPLAMP SWITCH, when the brake is applied, to the SHIFT LOCK CONTROL MODULE.

A signal to the SHIFT LOCK CONTROL MODULE is received from the SHIFT LOCK CONTROL SWITCH and from the STOPLAMP SWITCH. These signals inform the SHIFT LOCK CONTROL MODULE when the brake is applied and when the transaxle is in the "P" position. When these conditions are met, the SHIFT LOCK CONTROL MODULE supplies voltage to the SHIFT LOCK SOLENOID. The SHIFT LOCK SOLENOID then energizes, which enables the driver to shift the manual selector out of the "P" position.
