Fuel Injector: Service and Repair

CAUTIONS:
^ Use care when handling injectors to prevent damage the injector needle. Also, because the injector is an electrical component, it should not be immersed in any type of liquid solvent or cleaner, as damage may occur.

^ Be sure to replace injectors with an identical part. Other injectors may appear to be the same, but they are calibrated differently for different flow rates. Never twist injector while installing as damage or misplacement of O-rings may occur.

REMOVE OR DISCONNECT
1. Negative battery cable.
2. Relieve fuel pressure. Refer to Fuel Pressure Release.
3. Fuel rail assembly from cylinder head.
4. Slide injector retainer clip along rail away from injector to disengage, the spread clip open to while pulling downward and discard.
5. Injector assembly.
6. Injector O-ring seals from both ends of injectors and discard.

INSTALL OR CONNECT
1. Lubricate new injector O-ring seals with engine oil, and install on injector assembly.
2. New injector retainer clip on injector assembly, clip should be parallel with injector electrical connector.
3. Injector assembly into injector socket, push upward slowly to engage retainer clip then push injector all the way into injector socket.
4. Fuel rail assembly.
5. Negative battery cable.
6. Turn ignition switch to "ON" and then back to "LOCK" to pressurize the fuel system. Check for any fuel leaks.
