REPLACE
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Remove air suction guide from air cleaner.
3. Disconnect battery cables and remove battery and tray.
4. Remove ground cable from transaxle.
5. Disconnect solenoid and shift lever connectors.
6. Remove wire harness and speedometer cable from transaxle.
7. Remove oil pressure control cable from accelerator cable, then the accelerator cable from transaxle.
8. Disconnect select cable from transaxle, then remove starter.
9. Drain transaxle fluid.
10. Disconnect oil outlet and inlet hoses from oil pipes. Plug all openings.
11. Raise and support vehicle.
12. Remove exhaust system components as necessary, then the clutch housing lower plate.
13. Remove driveplate attaching bolts using a screwdriver in notch provided to hold driveplate, Fig. 22.
14. Remove LH front drive axle as follows:
a. Remove wheel center cap, then the cotter pin and driveshaft nut.
b. Remove wheel nuts, then the wheel and tire assembly.
c. Remove snap ring from spline of differential side joint using a screwdriver.
d. Remove stabilizer bar bracket bolts and ball stud bolt.
e. Disconnect ball stud from steering knuckle by pulling down on stabilizer bar.
f. Disconnect inboard joint from differential side gear and wheel side joint from steering knuckle, then remove the drive axle assembly.
15. Disconnect inboard joint of RH drive axle from differential.
16. Remove RH side transaxle mounting member bolts, then secure transaxle using a jack.
17. Remove LH side transaxle mounting bolts.
18. Remove engine-to-transaxle attaching bolts.
19. Remove transaxle from engine by sliding toward left side and carefully lowering jack.
20. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Apply suitable grease around the cup at center of torque converter.
b. Measure distance A, Fig. 23. Distance should measure more than 0.85 inch. If distance is less than specified, converter installation is improper and must be corrected.
c. Guide right drive axle into differential side gear as transaxle is being raised.
d. After installing inboard joints into differential side gear, push inboard joints into side gears until snap rings on drive axles engage side gears.
e. Adjust oil pressure control cable if necessary.
f. Fill transaxle with fluid.
g. Tighten to specification.
