Power Locks: Description and Operation
CIRCUIT OPERATIONBattery voltage is applied at all times through the Accessory Fusible Link to the Power Door Lock Control Module. The Power Door Lock Control Module is permanently grounded through Junction Connector 1 to G200.
When the LH Power Door Lock Switch is depressed to the LOCK position or if the Key is turned in either the LH or RH Front Door Locks to the LOCK position, the Door Lock Timer within the Power Door Lock Control Module receives a ground signal. When this ground signal is received, the Door Lock Timer energizes the Door Lock Relay (within the Power Door Lock Control Module) and battery voltage is applied through the closed contacts of the relay and the Power Door Lock Control Module to the Power Door Lock Motors in the Power Door Lock Actuators. The Power Door Lock Motors are grounded through the normally grounded contacts of the Door Unlock Relay (also within the Power Door Lock Control Module) and the Power Door Lock Control Module to G200.
With power and ground supplied to the motors, they turn and push/pull the mechanical linkages in the doors to lock the doors. The motors will stop turning once the Door Lock Relay contacts return to their normally grounded position (relay deenergized) approximately 0.50 seconds after the LH Power Door Lock Switch is depressed or the Key is turned in either Front Door to the LOCK position.
When either the LH Power Door Lock Switch is depressed to the UNLOCK position or the Key is turned in the RH Front Door Lock to the UNLOCK position, the Door Unlock Timer within the Power Door Lock Control Module receives a ground signal.
When this ground signal is received, the Door Unlock Timer energizes the Door Unlock Relay and battery voltage is applied through the closed contacts of the relay and the Power Door Lock Control Module to the opposite side of the Power Door Lock Motors in the Power Door Lock Actuators. The Power Door Lock Motors are now grounded through the normally grounded contacts of the Door Lock Relay and the Power Door Lock Control Module to G200. With power and ground supplied to the motors in this manner, the polarity of the circuit is reversed, and the motors turn in the opposite direction than that of the Locking movement and push/pull the mechanical linkages in the doors to unlock the doors.
The motors will stop turning once the Door Unlock Relay contacts return to their normally grounded position (relay de-energized) approximately 0.50 seconds after the LH Power Door Lock Switch is depressed or after the Key is turned in the RH Front Door to the UNLOCK position.
When the Key is turned in the LH Front Door Lock to the UNLOCK position once, a single ground signal is received by the Door Unlock Timer. However, the Door Unlock Relay does not energize, thus only the mechanical linkages of the Actuator move and unlock the LH Front Door only. When the Key is turned in the LH Front Door Lock to the UNLOCK position two Limes within 3 seconds, the Door Unlock Timer will energize the Door Unlock Relay. With the Door Unlock Relay energized, power and ground are supplied to the Power Door Lock Motors in the Power Door Lock Actuators in the same manner to unlock the doors as described earlier.
