Valve Guide Clearance

- Tool Required - J 26900-14 Small Hole Gages, or equivalent.

1. Measure valve guide bushing diameter using a small hole gages. Record measurements. Standard inside diameter specification is 6.01 to 6.03 mm (0.2366 to 0.2374 inch).
2. Measure valve stem diameter.
3. Subtract valve stem diameter from corresponding valve guide bushing diameter to obtain oil clearance. Standard oil clearance for intake valves is 0.025 to 0.060 mm (0.0010 to 0.0024 inch). Standard oil clearance for exhaust valves is 0.030 to 0.065 mm (0.0012 to 0.0026 inch). If intake valve oil clearance is greater than 0.08 mm (0.0031 inch) or exhaust valve oil clearance is greater than 0.10 mm (0.0039 inch), replace the valve and measure oil clearance again. If the oil clearance still exceeds the maximum specification, then replace the valve guide bushing.
